Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) are negative, stressful, traumatizing events that occur before age 18. The long-term impacts of ACEs are well studied and can produce many negative outcomes for individuals into adolescence and adulthood without the tools and support to cope. This is why prevention and early intervention is paramount to Family Centre’s work in the community. Empowering families with support, education and resources builds lifelong protective factors that prevent risk factors from developing. Additionally, identifying and addressing risk factors and vulnerabilities in families early on reduces the need for more intensive intervention later.
