History

Family Centre was formed in 1994, when two organizations, Family and Community Development and Parent’s Place, merged to provide a more comprehensive range of services to children and families.

Since the earliest days, when Parent’s Place was established in 1980, our key driver has been to share with parents the joys and challenges of raising children.

For many years, Family Centre was located at the old courthouse just east of the Yates Theater in downtown Lethbridge. In 2010, Family Centre moved to a larger, brighter, and fully accessible facility on the second level of Melcor Centre.

Two branches provide services in North and West Lethbridge: The Interfaith Chinook Country Kitchen at Family Centre North has been based on a close and productive partnership with the Interfaith Food Bank since 2004.

Family Centre’s West branch has been operating out of the Coalbanks Elementary School in the Copperwood neighborhood since September 2017 and features an outdoor play area. Family Centre is proud of its strong reputation for serving and responding to the needs of families in southwestern Alberta together with many other service providers.
